REAL FAITH FOR REAL LIFE

.

 WHAT  IS  THE   ALTAR ?

We are a small Non-denominational Church, committed to seeking Gods will in our lives. We are located in downtown Lawrenceburg at 144 Main Street, Suite 202 (across the street from the courthouse). Along with our Sunday morning service we offer Bible study classes for all age groups every Wednesday evening. We also participate in church league softball, basketball, volleyball and many other activities. Please click on the calendar link for a complete schedule of our monthly events. We will be offering a Bible School beginning August 24th 2009. Child care is provided at all of our services.

WHY  "CHURCH" ?

It is so important for the body of Christ (believers) to meet together. Not only to meet but to feel included. Church should be a place where people come to encourage as well as be encouraged. We strive for THE ALTAR to be that place. We want to be a place where anyone, regardless of their past, nationality, upbringing or life style can come and be accepted. This will not be a place of condemnation against anyone for any reason.

OUR  VISION

Our vision is to be a place where the Holy Spirit has the freedom to move in the way He needs. We want all of the gifts to be used in His body (us) to edify and equip all of the body for service. We desire to see people filled with the Holy Spirit and move in the power that comes with it (Acts 1:8).

HOW  DO  WE  ACHIEVE  SALVATION ?

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:8-10

For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. Romans 10:9-10

WHAT  DO  WE  BELIEVE ?

We believe in the Five fold ministry in the church as established in Ephesians 4.

1. APOSTLES

2. PROPHETS

3. EVANGELISTS

4. PASTORS

5. TEACHERS

When the church involves all of the appointed offices, the body will be built up and strengthened. We also believe ministry comes from the body. God can use everyone in His body to minister to the needs of others. We need only be willing to allow Him.

WHY  ME ?

Did you know that before you were formed in the womb God knew you? He has specific plans for each of our lives (Jeremiah 29:11).

You may wonder how God could use you. When we come to know the Lord, we get a fresh start (2 Corinthians 5:17). You need to understand that you come to God just as you are. Don't tell yourself that "I'm not good enough", or "I need to make some changes first". Romans 12:2 tells us "Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect His will really is." God has a plan for you, to become part of the body of believers and to help in the ministry to others.

...I will build an altar to the God who answered my prayers when I was in distress. He has stayed with me wherever I have gone." Genesis 35:3

.

James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

KEYS TO MINISTRY AND THE BODY

The four keys to effective Ministry as laid out in Acts 2:42 are:

1. Teaching/Bible Study

2. Fellowship

3. Taking The Lord's Supper

4. Prayer

When these are done there will be signs and wonders, and the body will be strengthened. The Bible says they joined with each other and devoted themselves to these things. This was the model for them and is still relevant today.

Our Worship

Our Worship at THE ALTAR is vital to our services.

We believe in worshipping the Lord with our whole heart as this ushers us into the presence of the Lord.

Our style would be considered contemporary.

We do songs that can be heard on radio stations that are encouraging and uplifting.

We know that the Holy Spirit will inhabit our worship and will minister to the body during that time. We strive "to make a joyful noise unto the Lord" (Psalms 33 & 108).

Romans 12:6-9 tells us that "We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good."
